Hey girls, we have been so, so busy, but have got through our list of preparations and want to take a moment to wish all our followers a wonderful Christmas.  Our holly wreaths sold really well.  We have got some great style sorted for Christmas (some for the best bargain prices) and will share a few pics with you over the week to come.

As we write, we can smell the ham cooking, we have just got our turkey from Grandad and our Christmas cake and pudding from Granny with lots of goodies too.  Mom is making flowers for our table and Dad is hanging up our own Christmas wreath.

As the song says......'It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas'   in this house.

Hope it is a happy Christmas for you too and that all is good in your life - if you are sad for any reason today, we are thinking of you. XX

Hope all your preparations are done and you are set for a fab Christmas.  Watch out for our blogs over the next days, when we'll be keeping you up to date on what's going on with us.

We have got a few great pressies so far - thanks everyone......and look forward to a few more tomorrow!  We just love our Christmas day with family and friends. It is all soooooo exciting!

Love and hugs and stylish Christmas wishes,

Sophie and Rachel

and a kiss from Liz XX

P.s Polly had her Christmas bath, she's looking like a fluff ball.

Liz here - It is the 1st of December!  The official countdown to our Christmas starts today.  So, what does Christmas mean to you this year?  On a tight budget, we will all get a little of what we fancy....nothing too exciting, but when making a Christmas list, it does not need to include lots of new and expensive things - it can include movies you want to see, meals you want to enjoy, family times and time with friends, outings over the holiday season, people you might meet up with that you haven't seen for a while, books you want to read, old videos that remind you of being a kid - even games can bring back memories and get family and friends together.  Offer to help at home, it will be much appreciated.  Make your Christmas list carefully - there are lots of bargains out there and when you are shopping - pick clothes that are not to Christmassy so that you can wear them afterwards too.  We will have more posts about the run up to Christmas, but for now.....begin to get that slightly excited feeling!

Rachel here- I'm hot and cold about X-Factor this year, I go from liking to disliking it but I think this charity single is worth supporting!

Sunday, November 20, 2011

Reviewing the X-Factor last night, 'Little Mix' (still not sure about the name!) gave an impressive performance of the song DON'T LET GO, originally released by put together group En Vogue. For the first time last night, the group's styling was cool and the individual girls' voices were evident and blended really well together... Thought you might like to have a listen to the original and then the new version and make up your own mind......

Think of successful groups such as Girls Aloud and The Spice Girls.... do these girls measure up?

Rachel and Sophie here -
We had a really nice mid-term break from school and will be back there tomorrow with a bang!

Today we came across the following quotation from the iconic Audrey Hepurn....
“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”
― Audrey Hepburn
Isn't it amazing that all these years later, this advice is perfect for the life we live now?

Hope you are all having a really good day - still struggling for ideas for dressing up?  Try this one!

Wherever you are this evening - take care and keep away from the fireworks!

Laura Mercier
We are great fans of Laura Mercier Cosmetics and Mom has met Laura..... we noticed the following note on Facebook this week:-
'Here is a tried and true beauty secret that Laura learned during her childhood:

A friend’s grand-mere was meticulous about facial massage - she had a yellowed newspaper article from the fifties tacked to the wall in her bathroom, and followed the steps day and night. You can do a simple version of a facial massage by applying moisturizer to your face with gentle upward strokes and to the chin, throat and chest using downward strokes.

What beauty rituals have been passed down in your family?'
With many cosmetics and creams costing a fortune, it is great to find some inexpensive skincare traditions that don't cost the earth and have worked for generations.....
Our great Grandmother washed her face with oatmeal soaked in water.
Sometimes when your skin has problems, less is more.  Yes, you need to cleanse carefully, but gentle and natural products are often best.  We have had great results from ALOE VERA gel which taken by mouth has fantastic results and we have this product for sale, if anyone is interested in it.  We also have a range of Aloe Vera suncream with Factor 30 and other Aloe Vera products for sale too.
A tricky spot can be zapped with a touch of witchhazel on a cotton bud.
When it comes to the Laura Mercier range, their exfoliator is so fine and gentle, it is second to none.  Their facewash is foaming and gentle and a bottle seems to last forever.    Their clay mask is deep cleansing, yet extremely gentle for young skin.
Mineral powder makeup (rather than foundation) is really best for problem skin, being a natural product and when you learn to apply it properly, it gives a fantastic finish.
All of these recommendations are from our personal experience
Why not ask your Mom, or even your Gran what skincare hints and tips they can give you?  Please share with us on Facebook.

Rachel here - for those of us who can't get to see Rihanna tonight - a little music share. Go Rihanna. Please remember to behave yourself in the Irish countryside LOL.

Rachel here - This weekend there is a feeling of a change in the seasons even though we had a short Indian summer experience here last week.  Deciding what to wear today, I had an urge to shop!  I know the shops are full of Autumn-Winter clothes, some of which I like, but there is a dullness about some of the colours.  Today, browsing on line, I would not have to go further than Hollister (damn the prices) to lift my Autumn wardrobe to a new level......

Sophie, Rachel and Liz here - lots of girls we know are in the market for a nice debs dress.  I suppose it is a once in a lifetime experience and everyone wants to look their best.  There is a choice to be made between current fashion (which means you might look the same as half of your peers) and the alternatives - vintage style for instance, which, when it works well looks really amazing, but if not carefully put together with hair and accessories, can look as if you stepped out of another era for the evening.

The most important thing we believe, is that the dress fits and flatters your body shape, is comfortable, is a color that suits your coloring and most importantly in this day and age - does not blow your budget for clothes for the months ahead.  It can be difficult to focus on the fact that it is one night only with all the hype, but often the girls that look most elegant and pretty, are those who look like themselves on the night, rather than an overdone, older version of themselves.

At the Ultimate Girls Day Out Fashion Show, Sophie took the following pictures, which might inspire you.....

Sunday, September 11, 2011

Sophie and Rachel here - the end of August was bizarre - on Friday 26th we were wearing  school uniforms and over the weekend we attended the Ultimate Girls Day Out, as guests of one of the exhibitors......

Sophie had worked at the event on Thursday, helping to set up one of the stands with accessories and clothes.  On Sunday we both went there for a wander around.  We had no money to spend, but it was great to see all the style ideas, nail bars, hair products, shoe exhibit and it was a really fun day out.  We took lots of photos for a blog on Debs Dresses for next week.

Rachel here - Hope you enjoy this and Natalia Kills - great rhythm, cool video....

Liz here - this video, via Michelle Phan will give you some ideas to help adapt your summer style to suite the chillier weather we are experiencing.  Most importantly, EXPERIMENT.  It's a pity to give up on summer clothes this early in the Autumn/Winter season.  By the way - the tights in Penneys are great!

Sophie here - we found this fantastic tutorial on how to create a stencilled glitter tattoo by MAC makeup - it gives simple makeup instructions that are easy to follow and then shows exactly how to create a tattoo on the side of your face, using simple ingredients.

I've lots of this glitter in amazing colours - think I'll make a little business offering tattoos to teens!

I think i need to seach for a suitable adhesive to make them last longer on arms and tummy and other tattoo places!

Rachel and Sophie here - isn't it great news to hear that Beyonce and Jay-Z will have a baby!  She was certainly the best dressed lady at the VMA's last night.  Hope to see it all on TV soon.

You will remember our recent post on the colour orange - Beyonce certainly looked amazing in her goddess type orange dress.  You will notice her little baby bump in the photo.  We wish her well.

Sophie and Rachel here - we've been admiring Anne Hathaway's style for years - right through her time in the 'Princess Diaries' and on to 'The Devil Wears Prada' (one of our most favourite  movies).

At the London premiere of her new movie 'One Day' which we have been waiting for she looked so sophisticated and beautiful. We're really looking forward to seeing the movie very soon.

Could you believe that the dress she's wearing is a figure-hugging lace creation from Sarah Burton's 2012 Resort collection for McQueen.

When I saw the dress I instantly saw Kate Middleton's style.
The jewellery is by Tiffany and the website is worth looking at. Girls if you want some Tiffany jewellery come talk to me I have a contact!

Rachel here - I didn't expect to be posting about Beyonce this weekend, but last night, quite late, we watched a recording of her recent gig at Glastonbury 2011.  It was amazing.  There were new songs and some of her older ones, compilations and tributes to other artists such as GAGA, Kings of Leon and Destiny's Child.

Beyonce looked fab as always, but what was amazing was her non-stop dance routines - really awe inspiring girls.  A few great dance moves for the next disco!  It was amazing to hear the crowd sing along and she said that it is the first time she had performed to a crowd of 175,000.  Wow.

The 75 minutes we had recorded were fantastic from beginning to end and if you have not seen it, you will pick up most of the songs on Youtube...... enjoy.  The one I have chose for you is HALO - I love the way she goes down to the audience and really connects with them.  She is a real icon.

Sophie and Rachel here - today is our Dad's birthday.  He is special.  He is the kindest and best Dad in the world who is always there for us, brings us for great walks, gives us lifts wherever we want to go and hardly ever says 'no'.  We love ya Dad.....Happy Birthday - have a really special day.

p.s. Check your Facebook - it's up to date at last!

Liz here - recently when Rachel had friends over, one of the lovely girls was wearing an orange top (she will know exactly who she is - because I admired it several times). In the picture we have chosen, Selena Gomez is wearing a gorgeous orange evening gown.

Orange is such a feelgood colour and working as a stylist, I have discovered that a little orange suits almost everyone.

At this time of year, when we are still wearing our Summer style - a touch of orange makes an outfit special in some way.  Many of the design houses use orange successfully in their collections right through the year.

If you can’t bear to wear orange clothing then you can still follow the trend by using an orange bag, shoes or jewellery.  This year - there is even orange lipstick and orange nail varnish available - so experiment with the colour orange - even a little of it and see what you think.

Rachel here - from time to time Sophie and I decide to go on a bit of an adventure...we usually need to rope Dad in to get organized.  On Sunday, we decided it was a day to relive our childhood and go paddling our double canoe near where we live.  It is a bit like riding a bicycle - once you can paddle - you can always paddle!

We started in sunshine, but then it rained, and rained.  Any attempt to look stylish disappeared as soon as we put on our gear.  There were lots of people swimming and at one stage I jumped in for a swim too.  It was oh so chilly!

What we didn't realize was that there would be a bit of talent around, with a guy whizzing by on a jet ski and three guys wake boarding and waving at us as they passed by!  At that stage we were wet and cold, not great for the image girls....

It was a dull day weather wise, but we had great fun and laughed a lot.  It was back home afterwards for nice hot chocolate.

Thanks Dad!

Rachel and Liz here - we found this video of the last appearance on stage by the wonderful Amy Winehouse, with her God Daughter Dionne Bromfield - who could possibly follow in Amy's musical footsteps -

This is obviously an amateur video of this precious last performance...  Today we found Dionne Bromfield's album which was released in July 2011 - nice upbeat music - have a listen to this video of sample songs from the album...

Going to download a few of these songs.  Remembering Amy....

Rachel and Sophie here - well girls, yesterday we took a little trip to see the Dublin Horse Show.  As it was Ladies Day, we knew that there would be lots of stylish ladies wandering around and we fancied a nice day out.

There was lots to see, with show jumping and stalls selling a huge selection of things from dresses to horse saddles and hair extensions to nail decorations.  It kept us occupied for hours.

As for the style - the best dressed lady - Yvette Byrne,  pictured right had a home created outfit in a subtle colour, with a top of french lace and a skirt made from curtain fabric!  There were fascinators of all sorts, some resembling flower arrangements perched on heads, to others one could mistake for furry creatures and feathered friends.

Some outfits were from the most luxurious of boutiques and others looked as if they had been rescued from the back of wardrobes - perhaps worn to a wedding several seasons ago.  Many ladies had made a great effort with their style.  Some got it really right.  Others....well let's say, they could do with a bit of advice from our Mom!  Two young students who were all dressed up, were so drunk, they were falling off their high heels and giggling as they wobbled from stall to stall.  Not a stylish sight!

This video gives an idea of the atmosphere on the day.  Enjoy!

Perhaps we can convince the organizers to hold a competition next year for 'Most Stylish Teen' and we'll all go along.  What do you think?

Sophie, Rachel and Liz here -

Happy Birthday Teen Life and Style! We have been having a good chat today about all that has happened since we started our blog one year ago.  Wow - what a year it has been.  Good days and more challenging ones but we have really enjoyed working together to create something we feel will build into something greater over time. We have had 10,200 views of our blog from all over the world.  We are fascinated by the power of the internet and how people find us and offer us opportunities through the power of networking.  We are still learning -  we feel the blog has improved over the year - we hope to bring you lots of interesting snippets of teen life and style over the months to come.

To celebrate today, we searched for a song that resonated with each of us - hope you enjoy this one.... it brings back lovely memories to us, of Disney Movies and our trip to London, which we really enjoyed.

To keep you up to date on the fashion front, being the 1st August, the Autumn Winter ranges are being announced and this video is of Penneys new range which will begin to appear in the stores in August gives us all a flavour of fashion to come and we think you will agree.... there's lots to look forward to!

But all of this is a few weeks away - so in the meantime - make the most of your summer style even on the dull days.  Love from us to you XXX

Sophie here - just found this one from Cristina Aguilera and Marroon 5's Adam Levine - kind of catchy.....

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

Liz here - I spotted this image of Selena Gomez on Facebook this evening - featured in Elle Magazine, Mexico, Selena has been styled to look much older than her years.  As a stylist, I believe that teens have a great opportunity to style themselves and wear clothes that would just not be suitable for other stages in their lives

Yes,  dress up for special occasions or going to a disco or club, but day today and particularly on a gorgeous summer day like we had today in Ireland, it's nice to be a kid for a few hours, Sophie went canoeing with friends and style was the last thing on their minds and Rachel walked the beach with Polly doggie and her Dad - it's great to be free to be a kid (even a teen kid) and to make the very most of those teen years.

Back to Selena - we get a glimpse of the adult - but what about the lovely kid we wished happy birthday to the other day?

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Liz and Rachel here - we have just noticed today that Rihanna has been named 'Woman of the Year' by Vogue Magazine Italy.  At only 23, she has accomplished so much, in her music life, in her personal life including overcoming adversity and in her humanitarian work too.

Rihanna has joined and supported campaigns for the fight against breast cancer and world famine too.  We did not realise that she has also offered her help to ill or less fortunate people such as a very young fan in the search for a bone marrow donor to save her from leukaemia.

To celebrate her success our choice of song for you is .......

Sophie here - browsing for style ideas, there is no doubt that Kim Kardashian has fantastic style.  The clothes she chooses are wearable and interchangeable - just the way I like my style.  Her more dressy style is more sophisticated than I like to wear at my age, but her casual style is perfect.

I love her faded ripped jeans and all the little details of her style, including sunglasses, handbags and shoes.  She always looks really well, whatever the occasion.  I like the way her bag and shoes don't match in this photo...

In the sales I have been picking up some clothes at reduced prices, a couple of dresses and tops that make my style a bit more sophisticated and will be useful for years to come.  Sometimes it is possible to create the 'look' you want, without spending a fortune.  My new faux leather jacket from Bershka in the picture on the left cost just €20 in the sale and gives me lots of options.

It's strange so see all the new stock coming into the shops at the moment.  It feels like summer has passed us by in Ireland.   I am going to make a wishlist for my Autumn / Winter wardrobe!

Saturday, July 23, 2011

Liz here - Amy was only 27, what a waste of amazing talent.  What a pity the lovely Amy Winehouse could not get or take the help she needed to free herself from her demons and addictions.

So much right in her life, with her music, yet so much wrong too.  Reminds me of when the lovely Paula Yates passed.  Amy has been a walking timebomb recently....jeered by fans when she could not stand up on stage. Her death is pitiful.

Our thoughts tonight with everyone in Norway who has been affected by the tragedy there.  Too many deaths this weekend.  We must remember to live life to the full and to help those who need help.

Friday, July 22, 2011

Sophie here - I've been experimenting with my nails all summer.  The matt pastel shades are really nice and this link will give you an idea of the lovely shades available and how gorgeous nails look with this glossy pastel finish.
I have been using Nails Inc nail varnish, a lovely present from my Fairy Godmother Auntie Bee XX

Oh and by the way.... a very happy birthday today  to SELENA GOMEZ....

MUSIC SHARE (Demi Lovato)

Rachel here - I'm off on holidays for a couple of days, so here's a little music share to keep you going while I'm away.... Demi has made a bit of a comeback with her new song SKYSCRAPER - what do you think?  let me know on Facebook please.... I'm disappointed with the video, but I love the song.

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Rachel here - I decided to have a belated birthday party with my friends at the weekend.  When thinking of my outfit, I decided on a 'festival style' theme - I guess there has been so much chat about festivals and so many clothes in the shops for the festival season.... that's why.
My t-shirt which is a lovely aqua colour is from Bershka's sale costing just €7, the denim shorts are a really good fit and are from the Bershka new season stock - so we are in denim shorts for autumn/winter girls!.  My  Roxy boots were bought in the winter and stored until summertime - at just €20 from T K Maxx, they were a steal and are really comfortable.

My belt is from a selection at Penneys costing around €2 - I find I am wearing belts more and more these days to finish an outfit off.

We had a really fun evening, despite the awful weather!

Sunday, July 17, 2011

Sophie here -  it's hard to believe that Jennifer Aniston is in her 40's. This style feature (via stylist Darren Kennedy - which names Irish shops and gives euro prices) shows her relaxed casual style - something she is very good at putting together and wearing well.

Click here to take a look at the article....

I think her featured outfit is perfect for a  teen - especially in this disappointing Summer weather here in Ireland.  All of the clothes will last from season to season, can be dressed up for dressy wear and dressed down for a day at the shops.  Great style inspiration.
